EXCELLENCE AND EGALITARIANISM SHOULD BE INSEPARABLE TWINS
Art and culture is the universal method of making and changing narratives for individuals, communities and geographies and in particular can transfer negative perceptions. Jude Kelly CBE traces her commitment to creating accessible inclusive cultural spaces that reflected the aspiration of London to be a progressive, empathetic and equitable city.
From founding Battersea Arts Centre in 1980, to creating the cultural and educational plans for the 2012 Olympic Bid to being the Artistic Director of Southbank Centre from 2006 to 2018, Jude has maintained her belief in using creative activism and the tools of theatre as a method of building audiences , programmes and physically welcoming environments that strengthen community cohesion and contribute to happiness and courage.
Originally from Liverpool, and with a strong reputation for her work in the regions too, she has spoken many times about the role and responsibility of the capital city to influence the lives of a nation. In 2010 she founded the WOW - Women of the World Festivals, now in 17 countries where gender, architecture and public space is a major topic.
